Cross stitch patterns can be hard to figure out. This is why finding the best ones is key to making a good piece of art. Have a bad pattern makes the odds of the item not turning out they way that you would like to invediable. That is why I have put together this collection of my favourite reliable patterns that are free to use, as well as some great resources for beginners to use. This post is separated into a few categories so feel free to skip a topic if you do not find it helpful for you
This "yeah baby" cursive font is a very basic but beautiful font for people to start with. Using the simple chain stitch to allow for nice curves, this design is great for beginners and can be downloaded from the DMC website.
Get inspired by nature without stepping foot outside with this Mountain + Sun free embroidery pattern. The clean graphic lines of the square, make it great for beginners and steady stitchers alike. This patter uses the chain stitch and a backstitch so it is still supper simple concept.
Cactuses are probably my favourite thing to cross stitch so i had to suggest this range on the DMC website. There is a handful of them all cuter than the next. still simple and free but adds a little colour with the flowers
The DMC website is my number one resource for designs, patterns and even materials. They have hundred of embroidery patterns and tutorials. Learning how to do the basic stitches can be challenging but once you learn, you will be able to make all of beautiful detailed pieces you'd like.
Pinterest is the place I go to find inspiration and new ideas. There is always new content daily and lets you get the creative juices flow if you are stuck. Just be aware if you are taking someones design at least give them credit where credit is due.
Instagram is another great place to go to for inspiration. you can now follow the tags and not just creators so it is easier to find new ones! The tags that I follow are: #crossstitch #embroidery #fibreart. (Spoiler alert!) Next week I will be making a list of the top instagram accounts that I follow so make sure to sign up for the newsletter and follow me on social media so you do not miss out!
